Are you interested in applying to the University of the Witwatersrand? You’ve come to the right place! For the coming year, we’ve put together a guide on how to apply online. This guide will walk you through the entire online application process, from creating an account to submitting your application. We hope that this guide will assist you in gaining admission to Wits!

Dates of admission opening and closing

  • Applications for admission to the class of 2024 will be accepted beginning in May and will end in August 2024.

Payment of the Application Fee

  • For South African citizens, there is a non-refundable application fee of R100.
  • R700 non-refundable application fee for foreign citizens
  • Payments must be made prior to the closing dates.
  • As a reference, use your Person Number or T Number.

Please upload any supporting documents.

  • If you did not upload supporting documents when you applied, you can do so now through the student self-service portal https://self-service.wits.ac.za.
  • Enter your person number (not your T number) and the first six digits of your ID to log in.
  • Current Students: Upload your final Grade 11 grades (no hardcopy required).
  • Already Matriculated? Please upload certified copies of all your matriculation/foreign school leaving certificates.
  • Other Postsecondary Institutions: Upload a certified copy of official academic records, including a statement/certificate of good conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar, for ALL tertiary registrations. (Please keep in mind that interim, self-service generated results will only be considered for initial assessment purposes for GEMP applicants.)

  • A maximum of three programs may receive your application (order of choice does not matter).
  • It is advised to submit one application for a program in a less restrictive faculty if you wish to apply to two within the same
  • Faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce, or Science).
  • Keep your options open, especially if you’re applying to courses at schools like the faculties of engineering or the health sciences.
  • Don’t enter the duration of the program. You’re requesting permission to enroll in your first year of college.
  • South African nationals must pay a non-refundable application fee of R100, while foreign nationals must pay R700.
