This year’s admission requirements for the University of Johannesburg are available here. Applicants should thoroughly read their applications before submitting them.

Applicants must hold a South African National Senior Certificate with a degree endorsement in order to study for a South African degree. For admission into undergraduate studies, all international applicants with high school qualifications obtained outside of the Republic of South Africa must obtain a certificate of exemption from the Matriculation Board of South Africa. The following supporting documents must be submitted to the Matriculation Board at the address listed below;

  • Form M30 (available for download from the Matriculation Board website at https://mb.usaf.ac.za)
  • Certified copies of the applicant’s educational qualifications from a South African High Commission, Consulate, Trade Mission, or Public Notary in your home country.
  • A properly certified copy of your passport or birth certificate from your home country, certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate, Trade Mission, or Public Notary.
  • Documents are sworn in English translation (Documents issued in any Language other than English)
  • The Matriculation Board determines the exemption fee (see website https://mb.usaf.ac.za).
    Submit payment proof for the R562 exemption fee payable to the banking details.

ALL INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Submit a completed application form along with any supporting documentation.
    School final results
  • Valid Passport, ID Card, or Birth Certificate
  • Documents are sworn in English translation (Documents issued in any Language other than English)
  • Provide proof of an R200.00 non-refundable application fee.
  • Provide proof of English proficiency where English was not used as a medium of learning and teaching (for Undergraduate programs, the University prefers the applicant to take the IELTS with an overall score of 6 and the TOEFL with an average score of 80-104). You can also take the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP). If you decide to take the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP), Mr. Malibongwe Masango will be your point of contact.   • If an international applicant’s first and second choices are both unsuccessful, the International Admissions Office will offer an alternative choice option if they meet the requirements.
  • If you require on-campus housing, please submit a completed residence application form along with your application to study at UJ.

Applicants who are currently studying or have previously attended a university within or outside of the Republic of South Africa must provide an academic transcript covering the entire term of study, especially if they wish to be excluded from university modules or courses.
